Madrid, January 28, 1800
To Mr Imbert,
Monsieur,
"I arrived here, on the 7th, very tired of the road: which is what prevented me from answering you earlier and telling you how flattered I am by your fair and honest dealings. It is with regret that I announce to you that i cannot answer it as I would like, because I do not have enough influence on the person to whom you want me to recommend you; all I can promise you, and that I will do, is speak to the ambassador when he arrives. If I succeed, I will consider myself very fortunate.
I am at your disposal, if I can be of assistance to you in any other way, and you may be sure that I will seize with eagerness the opportunities to prove to you the distinguished esteem and consideration with which I have the honour of being.
Your most obedient servant,
The Duchess of Osuna
